Thoughts on Unity and Dynamite

“In this third millennium, the Body of Christ is approaching a crisis where she must address the issues of real unity within her borders and strive for a win - win situation. But we need the power to do this…”

During a conference, my friend & I had been sharing our frustration that the Body of Christ did not display the ability to deliver as promised. My friend said that in his experience, many peoples were overwhelmed by problems that seemed bigger than they were themselves. We agreed that the Body of Christ needed much more power to do the works of Jesus.

A young lady had shared a vision in which she saw many people linking arms while surrounding an enemies' camp. As she looked closer, she could see a shovel between each one. She used the word mining' during her testimony and it arrested my attention as I'd only just enjoyed a recent conversation with a demolition expert about his job which involved mining.

I remember thinking it's a good job for him that dynamite had been invented, it'd take a lot longer to do the job if all he had was a shovel.

I had heard men and women of God recently express a feeling of a shift, a developing something, a transition occuring in the Body of Christ. Mostly they were as frustrated as my friend and I about our lack of real power to effect change.

As someone has said if we keep on doing the same things we've always done, we'll get what we've always got! The Body of Christ has to change and do things differently to achieve different results.

There is a scene in the film ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark' where Harrison Ford is chasing his friends who have been kidnapped by the enemy; they are speeding away on a lorry, and as he is trying to catch up, his path is blocked by a huge man standing in his way, brandishing a scimitar trying to delay him.

At this point, the scene is set for a long fight scene, but instead of engaging the enemy, Harrison Ford just pulls out his gun, shoots the guy and carries on running after the truck! – it all takes about ten seconds instead of a five minute fight scene …

So now I'm thinking ‘if we use shovels, it'll take too long' – Could we have some dynamite, please?

The demolition expert had told me there is a combination of chemicals, which when spread on a grass lawn causes growth, but when oil is added to it, it becomes an explosive. What a great picture of the different ministries in the Body of Christ I thought! So I asked him how this worked.

Apparently it's about the different elements [chemicals] that cause the growth being in order, in the right quantities, focussed, compacted together, and then having oil poured on them.

In a controlled explosion, if the chemicals are in unity, the oil acts as a catalyst and the explosion does a clean job of demolition or mining.

But if the elements are out of balance or out of sync with each other, then the chemicals become unstable and out of control. The detonation of an uncontrolled explosion can cause great damage and devastation.

So if the elements are in correct tension and unity with each other when the oil is added, the explosion is successful and controllable, and achieves its aim to demolish or break something open. And after the explosion all the elements that caused the explosion disappear – what is left is just the result…

If the picture of the elements in unity is a picture of what needs to happen to bring power for us to do the works of Jesus, then what are the elements needed to bring about a change in this third millennium?

At a time when major Christian movements were concentrating prayer for unity, the Pope said, “I pray we will renew our commitment to the unity of all Christians”

And a protestant Bishop said “To be reformed is to be faithful to Jesus' prayer ‘that they all may be one..that the world may believe”.

To achieve real unity we really need the elements of wisdom, humility, patience and fellowship. Could that be the DYNAMITE we need?
